State of the Center City

The third annual State of the Center City report is now available. This annual report was created to highlight the growth and development of Charlotte’s urban core over the past year. In it, you will find information about Uptown, Charlotte’s Central Business District (CBD), South End, and a portion of the Midtown neighborhood as noted by the Blue Area on the Reference Map.

In the report, you’ll find facts about transportation, residential and retail markets, arts, sports, entertainment, hospitality and sustainability in Center City Charlotte. For example, did you know that:

  • Since 2000, the population of 20- to 30-year-olds who live Uptown has grown by 219%.
  • 88% of South End’s residential units have been constructed since 2000.
  • 44% of office workers who work Uptown have graduate degrees.
  • There are nearly 150 restaurants located Uptown alone.
  • There are nearly 29,000 students enrolled in higher education programs Uptown.
